MIX11: Live blog of Day 1 keynote in Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- I am live blogging the first day keynote of Microsoft's Web and Windows Phone 7 conference here starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

9:05 a.m. Waiting for keynote to begin. People are sketching on a whiteboard on stage.

9:06 a.m. The preview video is starting. The tag line for MIX11 is "The 72 hour conversation starts now." Sounds exhausting.

9:07 a.m. It's deafeningly loud in the press section. People are plugging their ears.

9:08 a.m. Corporate vice president Dean Hachamovitch is on stage.

9:11 a.m. Hachamovitch said, "Native experiences are the best experiences." He's talking about HTML5 versus plug ins on the Web, not about the Suquamish.

9:14 a.m. As example of HTML5 Hachamovitch showed Foursquare Playground, a 3-D version of the check-in social network. He showed this at the IE9 launch a month ago.

9:17 a.m. Check out the World's Biggest Pac-Man in HTML5. Namco built it for Pac-Man's 30th anniversary.

9:22 a.m. Hachamovitch explains why Internet Explorer 9 is not available for Windows XP. "Building a new version for the 10-year-old OS that came with IE6 didn't make sense."

9:24 a.m. Microsoft now showing an Xtranormal video making fun of Google Chrome and emerging but not final Web standards such as web sockets, featuring robots cussing. It's no Bill Gates as Napoleon Dynamite but developers are laughing.

9:27 a.m. Windows President Steve Sinofsky just showed up on stage. He made a similar unannounced appearance last year. The swimming fish animation that the IE team has been showing for the past year is getting updated.

9:31 a.m. Sinofsky is comparing IE9 performance speed with Google Chrome browser on stage. IE9's biggest competition is Mozilla's Firefox 4, not Chrome though.

9:38 a.m. Sinofsky said save the date for Microsoft's next developer conference for Sept. 13-16, 2011 in Anaheim. It's unclear whether this is the next Professional Developers Conference because they didn't call it that. And he left the stage.

9:42 a.m. Hachamovitch says the platform preview for Internet Explorer 10 is now available here.

9:45 a.m. Corporate Vice President Scott Guthrie just came on stage, and references #winning and "tiger's blood" in presentation.

9:51 a.m. Presenter now building code that uses a new ASP.NET release. This is headed deeper into Web developer territory.

9:58 a.m. If you want to download the new developer tool set, go to http://www.asp.net/mvc.

10:15 a.m. Microsoft is now building a website for a florist in Orchard, an open source content management server project.

10:30 a.m. Microsoft is also releasing some updates to its cloud platform Azure that lets you route traffic to different data centers and some new features for content delivery, access control and caching.

10:31 a.m. Keynote over. Chan out.
